the 4th Five-Year — Plan-period; conception of the complex cultural institutions; acquisition problems in public libraries; state and development of some library services, etc.). The Centre, doing its best, supported the investigations and working of the national and county library supervision. It issued statistical publications and elaborated proposals for the development of the system of statistics. Special attention was paid to some important problems and services of library types as well as to readers' strata. The functional development of public libraries, the elaboration of models of library types as well as the library service to reading workers, children and young people, finally, to national minorities might be included here. Among the activities dealing with certain fields of library work the following are worth to be mentioned

: efforts for the propaganda of book and library (readers' movements, courses, publications); investigation of accessioning in public libraries; encouragement of cooperation in subject fields; continuation course for classification; assistance to music and local history departments; solving of tasks concerning organisation of labour, mechanization and building. The Centre participated in the preparation of educational reform in librarianship (institution of library clerk training

; preparation of state examination for those qualified on middle grade courses in colleges). Through the cooperation with the National Board for Librarianship and Documentation the activity in the field of research organisation developed

: the conception of research policy and the five-year program of research reached completion. The most important researches of the Centre are aimed at the literary taste, reception of literary works, circulation of works of social sciences, influence of the library, librarians' profession and practice of thesauri. Among the Centre's services the periodical publications for orientation the accessioning of public libraries continued to develop. A number of bibliographies are in preparation to assist information work. The Library Science Library is used increasingly, the documentation journals covering library and information science are published regularly. In the field of international cooperation the following events are worth mentioning: reading research conference of socialist countries, organised in Budapest (1974); Hungarian library exhibition displayed in four countries; engagement of the Centre into the International Scientific and Technical Information System. 98
