The financial requirements of the Library were met from budgetary sources. In 1972 the employees received a considerable rise in the salary. International contacts centered around the Budapest congress of the IFLA. Members of the staff were active in the preparatory and organizing work, and delivered several contributions at the congress. In 1972 our Library was the organizer of the regular meeting of the directors of the national libraries of the socialist countries. Another important event was the Soviet-Hungarian library seminar held in Moscow, the sequal of the seminar held in Budapest in the previous year. In 1972 a new agreement of cooperation was concluded with the Deutsche Bücherei of Leipzig. Members of the staff made 34 foreign visit in 1972, 18 to socialist countries, 16 to capitalist countries. Eight times they represented the Library in international con­ferences, the most outstanding being the Vienna conference of experts organized by the International Exchange Committee of the IFLA undes the direction of the late Dr. István GOMBOCZ, and the Bologna conference of the AIBM. In 1972 we received thirty librarians who spent on avarage nine days in Hungary and had an opportunity for a close study of our Library as well as other Hungarian libraries. The number of foreigners making short visits to the Library (mainly from among the guests of the IFLA congress) was 552. 42
