III. Управленние Важнейшие проблемы, возникающие в жизни библиотеки обсуждены коллегией. Основными задачами намечены максимальная активизация сил, сплочение деятельности организационных единиц и поставление в центр подготовительных работ. В целях усовершенствования организации нашей библиотеки были проведены разные перестройки работы. Так, например в Главном Отделе Новых Книг в результате реорганизации деятельность внутренней обработки и публичного обслуживания была разделена на две самостоятельные отделы. В Библиографическом отделе была сосредоточена деятельность в области национальных библиографий, проводимая до сих пор децентрализовано. Параллельно с продвижением работ по планированию и построению нашего нового здания возникала необходимость снова уточнить задачи библиотеки и подготовиться к этим задачам. Стремились выяснить принципиальные вопросы, касающиеся функций современной национальной библиотеки и ряд очерков по подробностям данной проблемы составлены сотрудниками библиотеки. Потребный к подготовительным работам персонал обеспечивали перегруппировкой, а в дальнейшем требуется еще значительное увеличение состава. Обращали внимание на подготовку наших будущих сотрудников. В 1963 году 10 в 1964 году 19 молодых людей, сдавших экзамен на аттестат были приняты на курсы, дающие среднюю квалификацию. Report on the activity oj the National Széchényi Library in 1963 and 1964 In 1963 and 1964 the works of planning of the national library which' will have its home in the new building under construction were finished and the phase of execution began. Our working capacity was concentrated on fulfilling our preparatory tasks, such as compiling the catalogue of the reference library to be set up on open shelves, rearranging and revision of the catalogue of the readers' service and of the reference library and carrying out technical experiments in the readers' service. However, at the same time we endeavoured to perform our basic and current duties with the same efficiency as in the previous years. Consequently we had to suspend works which were beyond discharging the daily duties. As regards the current tasks we succeeded in fulfilling them, moreover by indirect services we could comply with the increasing demands as well. Unfortunately our preparatory works did not proceed according to plan, nevertheless, on basis of the first year's experiences and by assuring the necessary funds and staff increase we have good hopes of carrying them out till moving into our new home. Acquisition In our acquisitions we consistently observed the quality so that the amount of credit granted to this purpose should be invested as expedient as possible. The most remarkable of our acquisitions is the "Codex Cyprianus" world famous Corvina, bought by the Hungarian State on an auction in London at a price of nearly half a million forints. Further the successful acquisition work both from quality's and from quantity's point of view in the Music. Collection, in the Map Collection and especially in the Manuscript Department is remarkable In order to make our work of acquisition more efficient we started compiling the bibliography of the foreign periodicals concerning Hungary. 31
