Ca ta logue of recen t Primates in the HNHM 213 the 1956 revolution. Of these items only one of the skulls and a complete skeleton survived. Among the noteworthy materials in HNHM there is an old Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) skull from Gabon obtained from an unknown hunter in 1887. The Hungarian expatriate JÓZSEF HIDASI, who owns a private museum in Goiânia, collected New World monkeys in Brazil and presented about 20 specimens to the HNHM in 1984. The newest specimens worth mentioning include two rare black-andwhite color phase of the Black Crested Mangabey (Lophocebus aterrimus) received from Szeged Zoo. SCOPE This catalogue lists all primate specimens housed in the collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum as of February 2010. The collection consists of dry skins, skulls, skeletons, mounted and fluid preserved materials. All the available data on these specimens, derived from the labels and from the Museum Register, have been entered into a computer-based retrieval system, and the present catalogue provides a selection of the more important information for each specimens. In addition to the details included here, the system also contains, where available, data relating to the collector, nature and source of acquisition, earlier identifications with identifiers, habitat and measurements. All items that have had to be inferred are enclosed in square brackets, e.g. the country it the original documentation gives only the name of a region or a settlement. CLASSIFICATION The classification employed in this catalogue is based on the work of GROVES (2005). The specimens have been identified to subspecies level, but where the determination was not possible (due to a lack of data or unreliable information) the specimens have been identified and confirmed by the authors to species or genus level only. In the course of identification the following works had been consulted: ELLIOT (1913), EMMONS (1997), GARBUTT (1999), GROVES (2001), HERSHKOVITZ (1977), MITTERMEIER et al. (1994), NAPIER & NAPIER ( 1967), REDFORD & EISENBERG ( 1992), ROWE ( 1996) and T ATTERSALL (1982). Annls hist.-nat. Mus. natn. hung. 102, 2010
