Titles written in Cyrillic are transliterated. If a paper has a secondary title (i. e. title in languages different from the primary title) it is presented in parentheses. When a paper written in Hungarian or Russian has no published secondary title, the primary title is translated into English and is presented in square brackets. The papers have abstract from 1973, and key words from 2001. For all volumes the year printed on the cover, the exact date of publication, the name of the editor(s) and the name of the publisher are given preceding the contents. If the month and the day of publication were not specified in a volume itself, the date of publication is the last day of the year. Since 1951 the Editor-in-Chief of the journal is always the Director General of the HNHM. Since 1973 the name of the Executive Editor appears on page 3. It is given in parentheses after the name of the Editor-in-Chief. Between 1951 and 1988 publishing activity in Hungary was restricted to professional publishing houses under government control. This explains why not the Museum was the publisher in that period. The name and the status of the Museum were changed several times in the 20th century. Before 1939 it was the Natural History Departments of the Hungarian National Museum (= A Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum Természettudományi Osztályai). These departments were united as Natural History Museum in 1939, but it remained part of the National Museum until 1963 when the Natural History Museum got separate status. The names Országos Magyar Természettudományi Múzeum (= National Hungarian Natural History Museum), Természettudományi Múzeum (= Natural History Museum) and Magyar Természettudományi Múzeum (= Hungarian Natural History Museum) as publishers cover the same institute. Since 1962 papers published in the previous year by staff members of the HNHM are listed in the volumes. The list of scientific staff is presented from 1975. These are the last two articles in the volumes, and are omitted from the subsequent list.
