Elongate species of the Oriental fauna! area formerly assigned to Elixota PASCOE and Platolenes GEBIEN. Redescriptions and illustrations of insufficiently described species, and descriptions of new species (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae, Amarygmini).) This is the first part of a paper on elongate species of Amarygmus DALMAN, 1823 of the Oriental faunal area. Species originally described by DALMAN, PASCOE, FAIRMAIRE and Pic are redescribed and illustrated. Additionally some new species are described. The following species are redescribed: Amarygmus alternepictus (FAIRMAIRE, 1896), A. annamitus nom. n. (= Elixota salvazai PlC, 1954), A. ardoini BREMER, 2001 [= E. viridescens (PlC, 1926)|, A. blanchardi BREMER, 2001 [= E. aenescens (PlC, 1922)], A. cinctopunctatus PlC, 1938, A. cyaneopunctatus (PlC, 1924), A. diversepunctatus (PlC, 1922), A. hassalti FAIRMAIRE, 1882, A. hopei BREMER, 2001 (= E. cuprea PASCOE, 1866), A macer (GEBIEN, 1927), A. mitschkei (PlC, 1938), A. navicularis (FAIRMAIRE, 1894), A. punctatus (PlC, 1922), A. purpureofossus FAIRMAIRE, 1896, A. rufipennis (PlC, 1922), and A. vietnamiens BREMER, 2001 (= E. saigonensis PlC, 1954). Amarygmus laevis (KULZER, 1951) is illustrated. The following new species and subspecies are described and illustrated: Amarygmus bellulus sp. n. (Thailand), A. creber sp. n. (Vietnam), A. bellulus diehli ssp. n. (Sumatra), A. dominicus sp. n. (Northern Thailand, Vietnam), A. mahunkai sp. n. (Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia), A. siamensis sp. n. (Northern Thailand), A. yalaensis sp. n. (Thailand, Laos). Amcuygmus annamitus nom. n. is the new name for A. masumotoi BREMER, 2001 (nom. praeocc). New synonymies: Amarygmus cinctopunctatus PlC, 1938 - A. kinabaluensis (KULZER, 1951 ), syn. n.; A. hassalti FAIRMAIRE, 1882 = A. violaceopunctatus (PlC, 1924), syn. n. = A. kulzeri BREMER, 2001, syn. n. = Elixota ohtai MASUMOTO, 1985, syn. n.
