Makhan, D.: Thirty-five new Hydrochus species from the Old and the New World (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)

Hydrochus anandi sp. n. (Fig. 12) Holotype: male. Laos, Vientiane. Prov. Gi Sion Vill de Tha Ngonc, 28.11.1965 (only the holotype) (Bishop Mus.). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 3.1 mm, width 1.0 mm. Dorsal side shining. Colour of head and pronotum, scutellum and elytra black with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with coarse punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral side smooth. Disc with five large deep depressions. Anterior margin of pronotum with three depressions, one at the centre, two behind this. Elytral length 1.9 mm, elytra widest on posterior third, lateral side smooth, interstriae wider than striai punctures, 5th intersria with a prominent tubercle, 9th carinate in almost whole length. Apical holes absent. Elytral apices rounded. Male genitalia (Fig. 12): Basal piece short, páraméra slightly longer than median lobe. Etymology: This species is named after my son ANAND MAKIIAN. Hydrochus harrydeepaki sp. n. (Fig. 13) Holotype: male. Philippines, Manila, Nov. 1913, BOTTENER (only the holotype) (Mus. Berlin). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 2.5 mm, width 0.9 mm. Dorsal side shining. Colour of head, pronotum, scutellum and elytra brown and with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with sparse, fine punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral side smooth. On disc with five large shallow depressions. Anterior margin of pronotum with three depressions, one in the centre, two behind this. Posterior margin with two depressions. Elytral length 1.5 mm, elytra widest on posterior third, lateral side smooth, striai punctures wider than insterstriae, 5th interstria carinate in posterior half and flattened in anterior half. Apical holes absent. Elytral apices rounded. Male genitalia (Fig- 13): Basal piece short, median lobe longer than páraméra. Etymology: The species is named after my son HARRYDEEPAK MAKHAN. This species seems to be allied to H. kiranae sp. n., but there is a difference in the shape of male genitalia: median lobe in H. harrydeepaki long, in H. kiranae short. Hydrochus kiranae sp. n. (Fig. 14) Holotype: mate. Celebes, Bantimoeroeng, 1883, RIBBE (only the holotype) (Mus. Berlin). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 2.8 mm, width 0.9 mm. Dorsal side shining, colour of head, pronotum, scutellum and elytra brown and with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with coarse punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral side smooth. Disc with five large shallow depressions. Anterior margin of pronotum with three depressions, one at the centre, two behind this. Posterior margin with two depressions. Elytral length 1.7 mm, elytra widest on posterior third, lateral side smooth, striai punctures, wider than interstriae. 5th interstria carinate in posterior half and flattened in anterior half, tubercle absent. Apical holes absent. Elytra! apices rounded. Male genitalia (Fig- 14): Basal piece short, páraméra longer than median lobe. Etymology: This species is named after my daughter KIRAN MAKHAN. Hydrochus gitaraiae sp. n. (Fig. 15) Holotype: male. New Guinea, Mol, Maffen, 22 km E of Sarmi 18.7.1959, MAA (Bishop Mus.). ­Paratype: 1 male, New Guinea, Mol, Maffen, 22 km E of Sarmi 1.7.1959, MAA (MUS. Budapest). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 2.3 mm, width 0.8 mm. Dorsal side shining. Colour of head, pronotum, scutellum and elytra black and with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with sparsely fine punctures.
