Makhan, D.: Thirty-five new Hydrochus species from the Old and the New World (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)

Etymology: The species is named after my son HARRY MAKHAN. This species seems to be allied to H. deepaki sp. n. but there is a difference in interstriae. Interstriae in H. harryi wide, in H. deepaki narrow. Hydrochus deepaki sp. n. (Fig. 2) Holotype: male. Cameroun, Hankau, O. Tanga, Uham, 13.1.1914, EBERT (only the holotype) (Mus. Berlin). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 3.0 mm, width 1.0 mm. Dorsal side shining, colour of head pronotum, scutellum and elytra green and with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with coarse punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral side smooth. Disc with five large shallow depressions. Anterior margin of pronotum with three depressions, one at the centre, two behind this. Posterior margin with two depressions. Elytral length 1.7 mm, elytra widest on posterior third, lateral side smooth, striai punctures wider than interstriae. Interstriae flat, tubercle absent. Apical holes absent. Elytral apices rounded. Male genitalia (Fig. 2): Basal piece short, páraméra longer than median lobe. Etymology: This species is named after my son DEEPAK MAKHAN. Hydrochus samuelsoni sp.n. (Fig. 3) Holotype: male. Zaire, Elisabethville, Feb. 1940, H. J. BREDO (MUS. Tervuren). - Paratype: 1 male (same data as holotype) (Mus.Budapest). Description (holotype male): Body elongate, length 3.1 mm, width 1.0 mm. Dorsal side shining. Colour of head of pronotum, scutellum and elytra green and with a blue-green metallic gloss. Head with coarse punctures. Pronotum longer than wide, lateral side with granules. Disc with five large shallow depressions. Anterior margin of pronotum with three depressions, one at the centre, two behind this. Posterior margin with two depressions. Elytral length 1.8 mm, elytra widest on posterior third, lateral side smooth, striai punctures same size as interstriae, tubercle absent. Interstriae flat. Elytral apices narrowly rounded. Apical holes absent. Male genitalia (Fig. 3): Basal piece short, páraméra same size as median lobe. Etymology: This species is named after G. A. SAMUELSON, curator of the Coleoptera Collection of Bishop Museum, Homolulu, Hawaii. Figs 1-7.
