Makhan, D.: Nine new Hydrochus species from South and Central America (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae)
In the material of the Hungarian Natural History Museum I found specimens belonging to earlier described species. These are the following: Hydrochus purpureas KNISCH, 1920 (Fig. 2) - One specimen, Bolivia, Guayaramerin (Beni), 200 m from river, Soil Zoological Exp. No. 377, 18.XI.1966, lamping, BALOGH, MAHUNKA, ZICSI. Five specimens, Bolivia, Guayaramerin (Beni), outskirts of town, 22.XI.1966, Soil Zoological Exp. No. 391, lamping, BALOGH, MAHUNKA, ZICSI. One specimen, Bolivia, Guayaramerin (Beni), Mamore river, 24.XI.1966, Soil Zoological Exp. No. 405, lamping, BALOGH, MAHUNKA, ZICSI. Four specimens, Bolivia, Guayaramerin (Beni), Mamore river, 24.XI.1966, Soil Zoological Exp. No. 405, lamping, BALOGH, MAHUNKA, ZICSI. Six specimens, Suriname, District Nickerie, 25.VII.1992, MAKHAN. - Described from Argentina (Prov. Buenos Aires) and Brazil (Corumba, Matto Gross) (KNISCH 1920), this species is new to Suriname. Hydrochus piroei MAKHAN, 1992 (= Hydrochus bruggei Makhan, 1992, syn. n.) - One specimen, Brazil, Salvara, Mato Grosso, 1955, CAMARGO.
