3a - Cap pure white. Cap 2-4 cm, slightly umbonate, sometimes quickly yellowing when handled, silky fibrillose. Stem 3-5 x 0.4-0.5 cm, towards the base slightly en­larged, white, yellowish, yellowing. Ring thin, yellowing. Spores 4-6 x 3-4 jjm . Cheilocystidia balloon-shaped, clavate, 12-25 x 7-10 yum . In fron­dose woods. CAPP. Ill: 499 A. niveolutescens HUI3SM. 3b - Cap ochre yellow, brownish-ochre. Stem slightly clavate or bulbous. Cap 3-5(6) cm, later broken up into ochre yellow or brownish-ochre fibril­lo-squames on whitish underground, yellowing when handled. Stem 3-5 x 0.6-1 (bulb 1.5) cm, whitish, intensively yellowing when handled. Ring vanishing. Spores 4-4.5 x 3-3.5/jm. Cheilocystidia shortly clavate, 15-30 x 6-12 jjm. Stem attenuated towards the base or cylindrical. See A. comtulus (MOELL.) MOELL. in XVI. group: Comtulus: 2b. 4a - Cap entirely or towards the margin white when young 6 4b - Cap coloured already when young 5 5a - Cap entirely wine-red, reddish lilac, purple, or densely covered with similarly coloured fibrils, squamules. Cap 2-5 cm. Stem slightly clavate or bulbous, 3-4 x 0.-0.5 (bulb 0.8) cm, white, yellowing when handled. Ring thin. Spores 4-5 x 3-3.5yum. Cheilo­cystidia numerous, balloon-shaped, 16-25 x 10-13yum. Entire fungus viv­idly yellowing when handled. Cap 3-6 cm, very finely floccose-fibrillose-squamulose , margin slightly dentate from veil. Gills pale, then greyish rosy, grey. Stem bulbous or clavate, 3-4 x 0.4-0.9 (bulb 2) cm, white, may be finely floccose-fibril­lose below the ring. Ring thin. Spores 5.5-6 x 3.8-4.5/um. MOELL. 6a - Cap first white or cream, then straw yellow, medially purplish or purple brown. Entire fungus vividly yellowing when handled. See the former A . luteo-maculatus . 6b - Cap white, medially slightly brownish, with purple brown squamules espe­cially on the disc. Cap about 3 cm, conical convex, later flattened but with umbo. Stem 4-5 x 0.2 (base 0.5) cm, base enlarged, white, slightly yellowing, slightly fib­rillose-squamulose . Ring small. Spores 5 x 3.5 jum . Cheilocystidia ovoid to spherical. In frondose woods. LGE.: 135/C A. dulcidulus ss . LGE. 6c - Cap white when young, dirty ochre in age; with purple reddish or lilac fibrils, disc may be squamulose. Cap 3-5(6) cm. Stem 3-6 x 0.4-0.8 cm, enlarged towards the base or cylin­drical and bulbous white, towards the base yellowing. Ring thin and frag­ile. Spores 4-5 x 3-3.7 yum . Cheilocystidia numerous, balloon-shaped to ovate-clavate , 12-30 x 8-15 jjm . In frondose and coniferous woods, seldom in clearings. BON.: 277; CAPP.
