Gills greyish flesh colour, rarely vividly rosy. .Stem 9-20' x 1-2 (bulb 2.5) cm, more or less submarginate bulbous, white. Ring double, with cog­wheel ornamentation on the underside. Flesh unchanging or yellowish after one day. Smell more or less anise-like. Spores 6.3-7.7 x 4.5-4.5 jjm . In Robi ni a woods. The umbrella-like fungus perhaps does not belong to A . ar­ vensis , but an independent species ... A. arvensis var. umbrelloideus BOH. 2c - Fungus small-sized: cap 3-6 cm. Ring simple. Cap whitish then light ochre. Gills long white. Stem 2.5-5 x 0.5-1.2 (bulb 2) cm, bulb covered with squamules in circles, white, finally more or less ochre. Smell rarely like almonds. Spores 5.5-7 x 3.5-4.5Aim. Cheilocysti­dia absent. In gardens, parks. CAPP. Ill: 453 .... A. amanitaeformis WASS. 2d - Fungus larger: cap 6-9 cm. Ring double. See A. nivescens (MOELL.) MOELL. var. parkensis (MOELL.) MOELL. in the XI. group: Arvensis-. 3b. 3a - Spores ovoid, wide ellipsoid, spherical: (5)5.5-7 x (4)4.5-5. 5 Aim . Cap 8-15(20) cm, white, rather only slightly turning yellow or ochre, smooth, but may be broken up into squamules. Gills long whitish, later greyish, rosaceous greyish, lilac greyish. Stem 6-10 x 1.5-3 cm, cylindri­cal, may be more or less bulbous too, white, scurfy, i.e. coarsely granu­late-squamose on the lower half or towards the base when young. Ring dou­ble, with a cog-wheel ornamentation on the underside. Flesh white, almost unchanging. Smell more or less almonds-like. Cheilocystidia numerous, ovo­id, shortly clavate to balloon-shaped, 10-15(30) x 6-12,/Jm. On grassland, on grassy places under trees too, also on saline soil, often in fairy­rings. BON : 279; CAPP. MOELL. var. nivescens (= A. osecanus PIL.) 3b - Differs from the type, size smaller: cap 5-8 cm, stem 6-9 x 0.8-1.5 cm; occurring rather under trees on grassy places. It is similar to A . ar­ vensis SCHFF.: FR. var. subarvensis BOH., but spores of latter larger and ellipsoid, further stem not granulate-squamose towards the base. MOELL. 3c - Spores neither ovoid nor spherical, but ellipsoid and larger 4 4a - Cap white when quite young, but quickly straw-yellow or ochre; lemon­yellow on touching, cuticle early broken up into fibrils or fissured ra­dially, 6-12 cm. Gills long pale then light flesh rosy. Stem 4-8 x 2-2.5 cm, cylindrical, above the ring with roundish squames-flocci . Ring thin, with roundish squamules on the underside. Smell almonds-like. Spores 7.5-9 x 4.5-5.5 Aim. Cheilocystidia variable in form: from subglobose (12-17 x 9-14 Am) to balloon-shaped (20-24 x 10-14 Am) or broadly clav­ate to bottle-shaped (28-40 x 12-20 Aim).
