Hably, L.: New data to the Eocene flora of Hungary

LAURACEAE Ocotea obtusifolia (BERRY) LA MOTTE 1916 Oreodaphne obtusifolia BERRY; BERRY, p. 301, PI. 80, Fig. 1, PI. 83, Figs 2-5, PI. 84, Figs 1-2. 1952 Ocotea obtusifolia (BERRY) LA MOTTE; LA MOTTE p. 234, 1963 Ocotea obtusifolia (BERRY) LA MOTTE; DILCHER, p. 1-8, Figs 1-20. 1968 Ocotea sp. cf. Ocotea obtusifolia (BERRY) LA MOTTE; GIVULESCU, p. 579, PI. 4, Fig. 7; PI. 5, Fig. 7; PI. 7, Fig. 2. Leaf simple, narrow elliptic; base, apex acute. Margin entire, in some places undulate. Midrib strong, basal veins thinner than midvein and running near to the margin, and in the lower part of the lamina reaching the margin. The first secondary vein over 1.4 cm from the basal veins which follow the others, altogether eight pairs. Secondary veins running to the margin and connecting with the other secondary veins, forming camptodromous, brochidodromous venation. Veins irregular, fairly asymmetrical. Between the start of the member of the secondary vein-pair is more or less distance. The remain is very similar to Ocotea obtusifolia (BERRY) LA MOTTE from Puryear (Tenesse) (DILCHER 1963), especially to Fig. 6 of the publication. The age of this flora is also Eocene, more precisely correspond to the age of the locality Tatabánya-Márgabánya. The resemblance to the remain Ocotea sp. cf. Ocotea obtusifolia (BERRY) LA MOTTE found in the Upper Oligocène flora of Corus at Cluj (GIVULESCU 1968) is also striking. Ocotea is a Paleotropical element, its role was supposedly the same as the genus Daphnogene during the Oligocène, namely it constituted the shrub-layer in the tropical-subtropical forests. HEER; VELENOVSKY, p. 41, PI. 8, Figs 22-23. 1904 Paliurus friciBRAD.; BRABENEC, p 18, Pl. 1, Fig. 11a. 1971 Paliurus tiliaefolius (UNG.) BÛZEK; BÙZEK, p. 74, Pl. 33, Figs 1-21, Pl. 34, Figs 1-17. Fruit oval, winged, margin shallow-undulate with very fine radiating veins spreading from the fruit. The veins after branching off mostly divaricate, sometimes anastomizing. Fruit oval, its surface consisting of a lot of elevated part, not two-loculed as in Pteleaecarpum. The leaf of the species has not so far been found in the locality, so we do not fully identify it with P. tiliaefolius. The species is known from the Miocene of Europe. Placing : Tata, Kuny Domokos Múzeum, No. 83.378.2. Zizyphus zizyphoides (UNG.) WLD. (MAP 2) 1948 Zizyphus zizyphoides (UNG.) WEYLAND; WEYLAND, pp. 113-118. 1975 Zizyphus zizyphoides (UNG.) WEYLAND; PALAMAREV, p. 205, 222, PI. 3. Several specimens of this species have been found in the flora. Apex acute, basis obtuse, in some cases destroyed. Base frequently asymmetrical. Lamina 3.1-6.5 cm long, width 1.1-2.5 cm. Lamina ovate, narrow-ovate, sometimes asymmetrical. Margin in the upper part mostly entire, sometimes crenate, in the lower part crenate. The two basal veins as thick as midrib, or thinner. Distance between basal veins and margin smaller than between basal vein and midrib. Tertiary venation indiscernible. The species is frequent in the Paleogene, PALAMAREV & PETKOVA (1975) has published six Oligocène localities from Bulgaria, Petrescu (MÉSZÁROS & PETRESCU 1967) found remains of the species from the Lower Oligocène of Rumania. The species has not so far been found in the Hungarian
