Hołyński, R.: Buprestidae (Coleoptera) from Vietnam
130 R. HOtYNSKI fasciae (Fig. 3); very indistinct, sparse, dark pubescence can be seen on "glabrous" spaces of pronotal disk on both sides of median line, as well as between fasciae; and pale yellowish hair, only slightly differing from white one, is distributed on head, along hind margin of pronotum (more extensively near posterior angles), and irregularly on elytra, mainly bordering interfascial spaces. — Epistome trapezoidal, about twice as wide as long, broadly emarginated at apex, separated from frons by distinct, straight ridge. Frons inversely trapezoidal (length: upper width : epistomal width = 1:2.3:1.9), deeply sulcate along median line, with sharp oculofrontal ridges very slightly produced before anterior angles of pronotum; surface marked with fine and sparse circles. — Pronotum short, widest just before base (where it is 3.05 times as wide as long), narrowed basally to 0.99, apically to 0.55 its maximum width. Anterior margin very slightly bisinuate with protruding, acute angles; sides obliquely arcuate (more strongly so towards base), posterior angles acute; base rather deeply bisinuate on each side of broadly triangular prescutellar lobe, the apex of which is truncate. Deep semicircular depression on each side of pronotum connecting rounded, broad anterior fovea with transversal one near posterior angles, leaving prominent, transversely triangular convexity behind middle; prescutellar lobe margined with deep, sulciform depression along base; remaining part of pronotal disk broadly triangular, markedly convex. Surface of pronotum covered with dense circles (more distinct towards sides), each with hair-bearing puncture at center. — Scutellum bell-shaped, longer than wide, slightly convex, smooth. — Elytra nearly as wide as pronotum, narrowed from base to anterior fourth, then roughly parallel to 2/5 and arcuately convergent to apices, which are conjointly rounded. Lateroposterior margin without appreciable denticulation. Humeral protuberance rather distinct, lateral carina fine, reaching to near apex. Transversal basal sulcus deep laterally, disappearing towards scutellum; lateral posthumeral depression very distinct; posterior suturai one shallow, extending from mid-length to apices; suture between depressions elevated. Viewed from side, elytra with prominent humeral lobe, rather deeply sinuate just behind metacoxae, and regularly rounded to apices. Surface finely and sparsely punctured, irregularly, shallowly rugose on sides of anterior part. — Prosternai process trapezoidal, about as wide (anteriorly) or decidedly wider (at apex) than long; its sides nearly straight, distinctly marginate (Fig. 4). Lateroposterior angles of metacoxae roundedly blunt. Measurements (taken as in T. topali sp. n.) — Total length: 2.60 mm. —• Maximum width of head: 0.74 mm. — Length of pronotum: 0.53 mm. — Maximum width of pronotum: 1.62 mm. —• Length of elytra: 2.07 mm. — Maximum width of elytra: 1.59 mm. Both the T. t. tecmessa OBB. s. str. from Burma, Assam and Bengal, and T. t. vesta OBB. from Tenasserim and Malay Peninsula, have pronotal sides more strongly rounded anteriorly, yellow pubescence much darker and more abundant, pattern of elytral pubescence not so regular and much less contrasting, paired anterior dark spaces (to the sides of the scutellar one) smaller and less distinct. The same holds true for an undescribed form from China, as well as for insular allospecies : T. laeta KERR, from Sumatra and Java, and an undescribed one from Ceylon, while the Formosan T. chionochaeta OBB. is characterized (according to OBENBERGER 1929) by more markedly protruded head and totally white (without any trace of yellow) pubescence. I have a great pleasure to name this new subspecies in honour of DR. ZOLTÁN KASZAB, Director of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. References BAUDON, A.
