Papp, L.: New species and records of Sphaeroceridae (Diptera) from the USSR

New Species and Records of Sphaeroceridae (Diptera) from the USSR by L. PAPP, Budapest Abstract — Locality data of 72 Sphaerocerid species from the USSR, including five species new to science as Limosina terrestris sp. n., Leptocera (Opacifrons ) elbergi sp. n., L. (Rachispoda ) excavata sp. n., L. (Rachispoda ) praeapicalis sp. n., L. (Rachispoda ) sajanica sp. n., and 16 species new to the fauna of the USSR are given. With 18 figures. The Sphaerocerid fauna of the USSR is rather inadequately known. As far as its European part is concerned, the works of NARTSHUK (1970) and HACKMAN (1972) discuss more than the half of the presumed number of species of this territory, on the other hand, the percentage of the species known from the Asiatic part of the USSR is low. For this reason, it was a great pleasure to receive 410 unnamed Sphaerocerid specimens from the collection of the Zoological Institute, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Leningrad, and 104 specimens from the collection of the Zooloogia ja Botanika Instituut, Tartu. A small material of 16 specimens (8 species) was loaned by DR. V. I. SYCHEVSKAYA, Samarkand. I am very much indebted to the collectors of these highly interesting materials. My most sincere thanks are due to DR. E. P. NARTSHUK (Leningrad) and to DR. K. ELBERG (Tartu) for the loan of the unnamed Sphaerocerid material. I propose to discuss the material in the systematic order. Five species were found to be new to science and 16 species new to the fauna of the USSR (the number of the new species for the Asiatic part is even higher). The apical half of the mid and hind tibia of the female specimen above is black, all femora of the three specimens are completely black. On the basis of these
