Lieftinck, M. A.: Bees of the genus Amegilla Friese from Korea with a new species (Hymenoptera, Anthophoridae)

not markedly constricted at its base, the basal arms relatively short and small. Distal portion of sternite 8 plate-shaped, subquadrangular, not abruptly narrowed beyond middle, the apical border variously emarginate. Antenna more attenuated, joint 3 almost or fully twice as long as its apical width, subequal in length to the scape and to joints 4+5. 4 being the shortest {rf); or 3 much longer, frequently exceeding the scape and almost or fully as long as 4—6 combined (9)Body generally more elongated, less compactly built; size usually medium to large. A. (Zonamegilla)POPOV. -Gonoforceps more slender, distal portion constricted basally, the recurved apex itself subtriangular, oval, or axe-shaped in outline and abruptly hooked inward (,,elbowed") nearly always hollowed out ventrally, surface finely reticulate and clothed densely with microsetae, its convex dorsal surface carrying a few strong bristles. Gonostylus invariably absent. Sternite 7 variable, but distal portion markedly constricted basally and greatly expanded thereafter, basal arms relatively long. Main body of sternite 8 broad, more or less diamondshaped, suddenly narrowed at about halfway its total length, distal portion long, slender and subparallel-sided, its apex rather broadened and bituberculate. Antenna less attenuated, joint 3 shorter than twice its width at apex, much shorter than scape and usually also shorter than joints 4+5, 4 being the shortest, squarish or broader than long (çf); or 3 much longer though shorter than 4-6 combined (9 )• Body thick-set; size usually small to medium. China: series of both sexes (additional specimens), from various localities in Fukien, leg. T. C. MAA, 1942—45 (ML, TCM, etc.). This species and its near ally A. urens (CKLL.) have been discussed at some length in my 1956 paper, in which it was pointed out that the two should be considered distinct species. I still believe that they are, despite the arguments put forward by YASUMATSU (1935) in favour of the opinion that A. urens is only a subspecies of A. florea. Besides A. urens the present species has several near allies, A. mesopyrrha (CKLL.) being one of them, but there are others occurring in China which are still undescribed. As far as the internal structures are concerned I am unable to distinguish the present males from Korea and Chinese examples. However, both sexes differ a little in the extent and colour of the short pubescence covering the gastral tergites.
