Tsuneki, K.: Sphecidae (Hymenoptera) from Korea

50. Crossocerus (Ablcpharipus) podagricus hokusenensis ssp. n. Ç Grabro (Goelocrabro) podagricus: TSUNEKI, 1947, p. 290 (Korea); 1954, p. 59, 69. 9. Differs from the typical race mainly in the structure of the pronotum. The difference is much the same as in the preceding subspecies of G. assimilis. Furthermore, the head seen from above with the areas behind the eyes slightly more developed, close to the preceding species and the yellow colour is sometimes much paler (natural or effect of alcohol?). çf unknown. Holotype: Ç, Prov. Ryang-gang, Plateau Chann-Pay, Sam-zi-yan, 1500 m, 25. VHI. 1971 (No. 197). - Paratype: 1 9, do. Remarks. — According to the key of KOHL ( 1915) the specimens before me must be identified as C. podagricus ( 9 ), with slight differences as above mentioned. But I cannot be free from the doubt that the specimens may represent the mere colour variation of the preceding species, since except for the colour of the pronotum, tubercles and the middle tibiae as well as the slight difference regarding the enclosing furrow of the area cordata there is no important difference that can be observed between the females of the preceding and present specimens. The fact that they were collected at the same place and time and that the male of C. podagricus were not collected seems to support my doubt. In this report, however, I dealt with the present specimens as G. podagricus, representing a geographical race. 51. Grossocerus (Blepharipus) cetratus (SHUCKARD, 1837) Grossocerus (Goelocrabro) cetratus: TSUNEKI, 1954, p. 61, 71. Specimen examined: 1 çf, Prov. Ryang-gang, Plateau Chann-Pay, 1500 m, 24. VIH. 1971 (No. 196). Distribution: Broadly distributed over the Palaearctic Region, but new to the fauna of Korea. Remarks. — The specimen examined has the tibiae and metatarsi of the fore legs more broadly margined with white colour and on the metatarsi the black mark is more indistinctly outlined than in the Europen and Japanese specimens. Further, the punctures on the head and thorax are much closer and stronger. (In this respect the Japanese specimens are finer and sparser than the European ones). Especially the punctures on the anterior verge of the upper frons are markedly large, but shallow, elongate and confluent, forming oblique rugae among them. 52. Grossocerus (Blepharipus) ambiguus hokkaidoensis TSUN., 1954 Crossocerus (Goelocrabro) ambiguus hokkaidoensis: TSUNEKI, 1967b, p. 14 Cîf çf, Manchuria) Specimens examined: 19 9> 10 çf, Prov. South Pyongan, Pyongyan, Hotel garden, 7-31. VIII., 2-7. IX. 1971 (Nos. 146, 150, 157, 166, 176, 177, 190, 225, 234, 237, 243.) Distribution: Japan, Manchuria and new to Korea, the typical race is known from the Holarctic Region. Remarks. — In the specimens examined the yellow colour of the body and appendages is stronly turned into whitish (effect of alcohol?).
