Farkas, H.: Two new gall mites from Africa (Acari)

ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONALIS HUNGARICI Tomus 63. PARS ZOOLOGICA 1971. Two New Gall Mites from Africa (Aeari) Ry H. K. FARKAS, Budapest Vasai es dalbergiae n. sp. (Fig 1) Female 200—220 pt, long, 70 fx wide, 65 u. high. Majority of specimens rather squat, fusiform. Colour of dry specimens brown. Rostrum 27 u. long, comparatively short as related to body dimensions, directed obliquely downward. Shield 42 pv long, 70 u. wide. Anterior lobe above rostrum 14 (x long, in lateral view apically rounded, in superior view anteriorly rounded, spade-shaped. Shield with peculiar field delimited by a line on three sides; expressed only in wholly developed females. Dorsal setae of shield very thin, parallel, reclinate, 20 u. long. Tubercles of dorsal setae cylindrical, their apices not reaching first tergite, spaced 34 [x apart from one another. Anterior leg 42 jx long, tibia 7 u. long, bearing a 14 [x long bristle, tarsus 6 u, long, claw 8 fx long, thin, well discernibly knobbed. Featherclaw small, 5-rayed. Posterior leg 39 \x long, tibia 7 p. long, tarsus 6 u. long, claw 8 [x long. Coxae weakly and faintly ornamented with longitudinal very faint lines, often also missing. First setiferous coxal tubercles invariably spaced more apart than second ones. Abdomen with 28—30 rings. Tergites most peculiar in superior view: tergites 1—5 or 1—7 following shield straight or rather convex, in accordance with Vasates character, but succeeding ones more or less concave, yet not so expressed as to attain the rate of concavity characteristic of the genus Tetra. Microtubercles completely absent on dorsal side, minute on ventral side, spaced rather far from one another, touching posterior ring margins, except for posterior 5—6 rings with elongate microtubercles (also these missing on dorsal side). Lateral bristle 19 u. long, first ventral bristle 55 u. long, second ventral bristle 28 u. long, third ventral bristle 22 u, long, situated on ring 4 counted from posterior end of body. Accessory caudal seta 4—5 [x long, very thin, hardly discernible. Caudal bristle thin and flagelliform. All bristles hair-fine, thin. Female genitalia 28 jx wide, 14 u. high. Coverflap with longitudinal ribbing, genital seta 14 p. long. Examined material: 5 specimens. Locality: Cameroons, Africa, collected by HUBERT WINKLEE, 25 May, 1904. Host: Dalbergia hecatophijllum T. The specimens occurred in the angles of the veins on the underside of the leaves. Remarks: The special pattern of the shield and the concavity of the tergites characterize and delimit the new species from all known congeners.
