The Maskae-group Peak production of the fructification of Agaricus maskae PILÂT IMREH and Bonus (1969) discussed, on the basis of 18 years of observations and investigations (1948—-1965), the ecological conditions of A. maskae, fructifying in the pastures around Szekszárd, Com. Tolna. During this time, the maximum production per period was 240 kg./40 days. (Broken down to a unit of 10 days period: 60 kg./lO days.) The production in 1970 has considerably exceeded this amount. According to IMREH'S measurements, 303 kg. were collected during 30 days, from 14 August till 13 September (101 kg./10 days). The amount of yield was still larger, but on the days showing the greatest fructification, the gathering of the entire production was physically impossible. On ceratin days, merely about one-fifth of the fruit bodies could be collected. This peak production affords some interesting ecological inferences. A. maskae fructifies regularly beginning with the middle of April. In 1970, however, it could produce hardly any fruit bodies for 4 months owing to the unfavourable weather, but, in view of the above statements, the activity of the mycelial colonies has continued normally in the soil and there was produced such a large amount of reserve substance during this "vegetative" period that it was sufficient to yield the biggest peak production during the 23 years of observation.
