Nagy, I. Z.: Lower Cretaceous Cephalopods from the Mts. Bakony, Hungary

Description: Whorl cross section high, oval. Umbilicus relatively wide, umbilical margin rounded. Ribs radial, generally with one interstitial rib. Ribs becoming rarer but also more robust towards living chamber, and decurrent unchanged on ventral side. Basic elements of suturai lines characterized by bifid L and the relatively symmetrical U. Remarks: All specimens should be relegated to the formenkreis of the above species. On several specimens, the ribbing of the living chamber is very robust, and there are exemplars in which this rib is arcuate. In any case, the small number of specimens and their state of preservation are insufficient to decide on their allocation towards, e.g., S. ( S.) af ricana, S. ( S.) flexicostata, dorseteneis, etc., or whether they should be considered individual variations, sexual dimorphisms, etc. Separation may eventually be attainable by statistical methods, given a copious material. Occurrence: England (Upper Albian, dispar zone); France (Uppermost Albian); Switzerland (dispar zone); Germany (Upper "Flammenmerger'). Stoliczkaia (S.) sp. indet. Seven whorl fragments might be relegated here, exhibiting the features of the above subgenus in their rib sculpture, but owing to their bad state of preservation no details can be established. Localities: Inota; Bakonynána, C; Tés, M. Genus: Salaziccras BREISTROFFER, 1936. Salaziceras sp. (Plate IV, Figs. 9, 10) Remarks: The fragments of 3 specimens, from Pénzesgyőr, K 2 . D = 26, 23, 15; A = 9, 9, 6; D —U = 6, 4, 5. Moderately involuted specimens, with flat, low whorl altitudes. Their robust, protruding ribs remain whole when crossing the ventral margin. They emerge from tubercles on the umbilical margin, two rib from one tubercle on the Bakony specimens. The sutures cannot be studied. Known from the French Upper Albian. Fam.: Acanthoceralidae HYATT, 1900. Genus: Paracalycoceras SPATH, 1925. ? Paracalycoceras sp. (Plate V, Fig. 3) Examined material: Hiree stone molds, partly with shell. Localities: Bakonynána, B; Nagyesztergál, W. Remarks: The specimens are worn and partially deformed stone molds. Nor can their sutures be studied, hence only the sculptural conditions can be considered. The rib system resembles that of the genus Stolickaia, becoming sparser and more robust on the living chamber, then slowly obsolescing. The interstitial ribs reach at most the middle of the ventral side. There is some resemblance to the genus Arcthoplites, but the interstitial ribs are invariably free on the Bakony specimens, with the conjunctions appearing only on one of the exemplars from Nagyesztergál. This latter displays also more interstitial ribs on the older, smaller whorls. The
