Mahunka, S.: Some data to the mite fauna of Finland (Acari)

Figs. 1—3: Scutacarus wihalyii sp. n., dorsal side (1), leg IV (2), ventral side (3) Axillar hairs thin, subciliate. Posternal hairs arising on a transversal line, long, setae poststernales externae almost reaching posterior margin of body. Internae about half as long. Three pairs of caudal hairs present, externae 1 slightly longer than internae, externae 2 rather removed. Legs: Tibiotarsus of leg 1 without claw. Hair c of femur of leg 4 long (Fig. 2). Hair p longest on tibiotarsus, hair s shorter than hair r. Type-material: 1 ex. (Holotype: T—786p — 67): No. 158. 1 ex. (Paratype: T—787c— — 67) : Locality identical. Types deposited in the Zoological Department of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. Remarks : A species without claw on leg 1 belongs to the variatipes-group. The best differentiating characters of the new species are the extraordinarily elongated and thin dorsal hairs of nearly equal length. Among the species belonging to the above group, it stands nearest to S. quadrangular is, but the simple axillary hairs, the longer dorsal hairs, and the poststernal hairs also display significant differences. Scutacarus peractus KARAFIAT, 1959: No. 159. Oribatei Hypochthonius rufulus C. L. KOCH; 1836: No. 159. Eobrachychthonius sp. With respect to some features, our animal differs from all Eobrachychthonius species known from Europe. However, in want of a suitable comparative material, and owing to the not quite satisfactory differences which might separate it from the E. taxa described from other areas, I at present desist from describing it. For the sake of facilitating later identifications, I submit a short diagnosis. Length: 230-250 p., width: 142-165 p.
