Móczár, L.: Kieffer's Mesitius and Epyris-Types in the Hungarian Natural History Museum (Hymenoptera, Bethylidae)

chitinized process, gonoforceps very long with rather parallel sides ; penis valves rather broad, not longer than paramere ; digitus with two branches at apex, the ventral ones strongly semicircularly curved, and the dorsal ones bent at a right angle flatly arched and strongly chitinized with some tubercles. On the basis of head sculpture, longitudinal furrow of pronotum similar to the other Mesitius species (e.g. M. hungaricus), howewer, on the basis of propodeum, whose distal edges without spines and bent at a right angle, it belongs to Epyris. This question can only be decided satisfactorily when a larger amount of material is at hand. Genus: Epyris WESTWOOD 1. Brachypterous species, propodeum slightly broader on posterior than on proximal margin of dorsal surface and with only one complete longitudinal keel 2 — Winged species, propodeum normal, with one complete keel, scutellum with two circular impressions, no transverse deepening 3 2. Wings hyaline veiy short, not reaching beyond the first abdominal segment. Head pronotum smooth, shining, very finely alutaceous, with very sparse punctures brevipennis KIEFFER — Wings slightly infuscate distally short, not reaching beyond second abdominal segment. Head, pronotum smooth, shining, head normal, pronotum finely alutaceous with sparse, distinctly deep punctures tardus KIEFFER 3. Propodeum transverse, distinctly broader than long (only at dorsal surface). Head, pronotum either very shining or on account of densely alutaceous surface only slightly shining, but remarkably punctured 4 -— Propodeum quadrate, at most hardly broader than long. Head, pronotum shining, always alutaceous and at most with scattered and fine punctures 5 4. Head smooth, very shining, deeply but rather sparsely punctured, punctures of pronotum little finer. Segments 2 and 3 of antennae much shorter than the other ones. Incomplete keels parallel on each side of dorsal surface of propodeum, not convergent distally. Tergite 2 of abdomen punctured as on the next species, 3—5 only very finely and densely punctured at their basis erythrocerus KIEFFER — Head densely alutaceous, slightly shining with rather dense but shallow punctures, pronotum alutaceous, more shining and more sparsely punctured than frons. Only segment 2 of antennae remarkably shorter than the other ones. Incomplete keels on each side of propodeum strongly convergent towards the middle of the hind margin. Tergites 2—5 of abdomen finely but distinctly punctured on the greater part and reticulate at their basis evaneseens KIEFFER 5. Head, pronotum shining alutaceous, finely, on pronotum more sparsely punctured. Eyes longer than their distance from occiput. Black, at most antennae, mandibles, pronotum and legs partly reddish-brown. Fore tarsi slightly longer than half length of hind tarsi (22:40 magnified X 62). Fore tibiae about as long as two-thirds of fore femora (19:28) inermis KIEFFER — Head, pronotum unpunctured, shining alutaceous. Eyes as long as their distance from occiput. Dark brown, with propodeum, partly abdomen and mesonotum black and mandibles, antennae, pronotum and partly legs paler. Fore tarsi about two-thirds as long as hind ones. Fore tibiae about three-quarters as long as fore femora bírói sp. n. Epyris brevipennis KIEFFER Epyris brevipennis KIEFFER, 1906, Spec. Hym., 9. p. 336 9 Epyris brevipennis: 1908, KIEFFER, Gen.
