Ca 1900 m.ü.M.; Juli 1902. Leg. ELISE REVERCHON (Z). I gave a diagnosis of this plant because earlier descriptions have not distinguished between the two plants involved and thus mixed up the respective features. If the measurements of the diagnosis given above are compared with those of the preceding species, it will be found that all dimensional data of the latter considerably exceed those of its progenitor. The tetraploidy of the plant is revealed not only by its measurements similar to other tetraploid Koelerias, but also by the features closely related to the preceding species. Having been unacquainted with even a single specimen of the diploid taxon, I could not expound these facts in my paper cited above. The plant, similarly to the preceding one, is densely cespitose, living probably in open, rocky or xerothermous lawn communities; whereas in forest communities (more favourable soil conditions) the lawn is higher, looser, the rhizomes, the sheaths and the innovational leaves longer. The culm also becomes longer, the panicle might attain 10 cm. The spikelets and the panicle of Koeleria caudata (LINK) STEUDEL display the same variability as those of the preceding species. In a flowering state they are generally stouter, the panicle rather oval, while at fructifying they elongate. Also, the flowering spikelets are greener with a violet hue, tending to pallid later. The glumae and lemmae are occasionally glabriusculous with minute, soft hairs; those in xerothermous habitats rigid, very often scabriusculous or with minute, rigid hairs. The carina of the glumae is always roughly hairy. Description of the leaf epiderm: the epidermal structure on the abaxial side of the innovational leaves is as follows : On senile leaves the costal and intercostal zones are always distinct, 4—6-seriate, the cellular rows being wider than in Koeleria rodriguezii UJH., the cellular walls are straight or minutely sinuous, the cells of the basic tissue alternate with the vestiges of the smaller hairs of the macro-hairs, and sporadically with silica-bodies, the macro-hairs and the silica-bodies are often adja-
