pact. The spikelets have long pedicels, thus the panicle is loose, rather lobate below. Every part of the spikelet is larger than those of Koeleria transsilvanica SCHUR. The lemmae also taper into a long arista. All these features show that the developed specimens sharply differ from Koeleria transsilvanica SCHUR, and they can never be confused with Koeleria majoriflora BORB. I stress this fact because, up to now, Koeleria transsilvanica SCHUR itself was also merged into Koeleria gracilis (L.) PERS. The plant is an endernism of the Brassó Alps and the? Királykő in the Fogaras Range of the Southern Carpathians. This latter specimen, marked with a question-mark, was indentifiedby K. DOMIN as var. tenuipes SCHUR. Its data are es follows: Comit. Fogaras. In pratis alpinis montis Királykő, supra Zernyest, 21, VII, 1902, A. de DEGEN, sub nomine Koeleria transsilvanicaScnvR, schedule DOMINI: Koeleira transsilvanica SCHU R var. tenuipes SCHUB. DOMIN. DEGEN collected the plant among Koeleira transsilvanica SCHUR. The rest of the specimens indubitably belong, also as to habits, to the latter species. Our specimen differs from the others by its stature, wider and larger basal leaves, larger and lobate panicle, but the measurements of the spikelets are not convincing; true, the plant was collected before flowering time. The datum should, in any case, be corroborated. In the collection of our Museum, there is a specimen, originating from DEGEN'S herbarium, which was not recognized either by Á. de DEGEN or K. DOMIN. Its data are: Comit. Hunyad, Retyezát. In valle Lepusnik, alt c. 2000, m, 1903,19, VIII. A. de DEGEN, sub nomine Koeleria ciliata KFRN. V. transsilvanica SCHUR, schedula DOMINI: Koel. transsilvanica SCHUR var. tenuipes SCHUR f. hirsuta m., DOMIN. K. DOMIN first published this plant in his also previously cited paper in the Magy. Bot. Lap., in 1903, under the name K. transsilvanica SCHUR var. tenuipes DOM. f. hirsuta DOM., and later in his Monography (p. 240) under the name Koeleria gracilis (PERS.) DOM. sensu amplissimo XIV. K. transsilvanica SCHUR 2. var. tenuipes (SCHUR) DOM. c) f. hirsuta DOMIN. This plant is identical with Koeleria eriostachya PANCIC. This beautiful species, highest member of the Balkan Series, was described by PAN CI c from Serbia (M. Stol, reg. Cacaker, and M. Kopaonik, reg. Kruseva.) It is almost unbelievable that the sharp-sighted DOMIN failed to recognize its identity with this species. Probably he did not count on the occurrence of this Balkan species in the Carpathians. The plant was again collected by SÁMUEL PAP, a teacher in Székelyudvarhely, who gave a duplum to Prof. Soó's herbarium. The data are: Transsilvania, cott. Hunyad, mt. Retyezát, in saxosis herbosisquemt. Plesa-Scorota—Piatra Iorgovanului. Prof. Soó identified the plant as Koeleria pyramidata (LAM.) DOM, var.! (Hb. Soó). Another specimen derives from Prof. NYÁRÁDY'S herbarium; its data are: on the snowy ciiffs of the Albela, south of the Retyezát, 30. VIL 1956, ST. CSŰRÖS, sub nomine Koeleria pyramidata (LAM.) DOMIN var. hirsuta CSŰRÖS v.n. „supraficies glumellae, preacipue carena hirsuta" in Contribute Botanica 1962 (1963), p. 448, fig. 2, p. 145. (Hb. NYÁR.). The plant therefore advances from the Kopanoik, through, the Mt. Stol, into also the South Carpathians, together with a number of other Balkan elements. The plant is new for the Southern Carpathians. As is to be seen, it remained unrecognized not only by K. DOMIN, but also by later collectors, and, as was done by ST. CSŰRÖS, it had been published as a variety of Koeleria pyramidata (LAM.) DOM., still in 1962 (plate I. Fig. 8., and Plate III. fig. 3.)
