Csalogovits, J. I.: The non-magnetic derivation of Atlantic and Mediterranean rock-provinces and their connection with orogenic metamorphism

provincial character of basic rocks appearing in the central belt of the orogene depends on the extent of compression of such faltered compressive structures in which pelites are abundant; there the rocks of the accompanying basic magmatisms are of the Atlantic type, i. e. the magmatic provincial character refers to the degree of metamorphosis of the sedimentary environment. Furthermore it stands to reason that Pacific basic magmatism is tied up to dilatative structures , as referred to by JOPLIN on basis of his tectonic examinations. On the table enclosed herewith we have shown the correlation of Pacific and alkaline sine of succession. According to this -— taking into a closer scrutiny the maphaitic components of a basic alkaline rock — that phase of the crystallisation at which both the oxydazing and alkalinizing degree increases in jerks, the timely effect of alkaline succession is being fixed within the time interval of crystalline succession. The apparition of spilitisation justifies the postgenetic formation of this effect i. e. the compressive effect of the rock forming the spilitisation which precedes the crystallisation. If the alkaline succession which follows the early pacific effect is agpaitic, in that case the metamorphosis of the metamorph environment is of a smaller extent than if the terminating succession is miascitic, that is to say of the K-type. In that case the position of the analcime-grid Na —H 2 0 is being exchanged by K, in other words leucite may form. Summarizing the foregoing, the following may be determined: a) In melt alkalinization cannot occur on basis of gravitative differentiation according to specific weight (R. DALY), and even less on that of ion specific weight (E. SZÁDECZKY-KARDOSS). b) Country rock effects induced as a consequence of the magma thermal
