Babos, M.: Notes on the occurrence in Hungary of Lactarius species with regard to their range in Europe

Herb. : 11 data.—Lit. : Bohus (1939, 1952) ; Fehér & Bessenyei (1933) ; Hollós (1913, 1926, 1933) ; Konecsni (1954—55) ; M o e s z (1930, 1942) ; Polgár (1941) ; S z e m e r e (1926, 1944) ; U b r i z s y (1940, 1941, 1954—56) ; V i s n y a (1928—29). It was found 34 times in the following plant associations and types, examined mycocoenologically, in the area of the Hungarian Central Mountains : Luzulo-Quercetum, Luzulo-Quercetum fage+osum, Luzulo-Quercetum myrtilletosum, Luzulo-Quercetum dicranosum, Genisto pilosae-Quercetum petraeae, Potentillo-Quercetum (petraea, cerris) pannonicum festucetosum heterophyllae, Potentillo-Quercetum (petraea, cerris) pannonicum melicetosum uniflorae, and Querceto petraeae-Carpinetum pannonicum (Bohus & Babos, 1958). It is a common mushroom in also other associations and in other districts of the country. Its rate of homogeneity may be very high in certain associations. E. g., it was present in 12 of the 15 plots (100 m 2 each and constant during a mycocoenological survey work, staked in the Querceto petraeae-Carpinetum pannonicum stock of the Tökhegy in the Mts. Buda), on 21 July 1956. It fructified in especially high numbers in the association Luzulo-Quercetum of the Mt. Samassa (Mts. Bükk), and in the above mentioned hornbeamoakwoods of the Tökhegy. Lactarius glaucescens Crossl. It can be seperated from Lactarius piperatus mainly by the bluish-green discoloration of its milk. It grows, together with the nominate form, in identical habitats and at the same time. Its sole reliable home datum and herbarium specimen originates from the association Querceto petraeae-Carpinetum pannonicum from Kishuta, Mts. Zemplén. It fructified together with L. piperatus on 3 September 1958. According to mycologists, it was found on one or two previous occasions also at an earlier period, but we lack any literature data or herbarium specimens in this respect. The statement of N e u h o f f, namely, that it surely has a wider range than that indicated by the sporadic observation data only it escapes attention, can also be generalized for its occurrence in Hungary. Lactarius vellereus Fr. Its frequency of occurrence and habitat is identical with those of L. piperatus, with a shift only in its period of fructification. According to observations, it appears at the end of the fructificational period of L. piperatus, as if closely following it. Herb. : 9 data. — Lit. : Bohus (1952) ; M o e s z (1930, 1942) ; Szemere (1926) ; V i s n y a (1928—29). In the course of our mycocoenological surveys (Bohus & Babos 1958), it was found in the following plant associations, that is, forest types ; LuzuloQuercetum, Luzulo-Quercetum fagetosum, Luzulo-Quercetum myrtilletosum, Genisto pilosae-Quercetum petraeae, Potentillo-Quercetum (petraea, cerris) 12 Természettudományi Múzeum Évkönyve
