Steel, W. O.: New species of Staphylinidae collected by L. Biró in New Guinea (Coleoptera)

Tergite of the third (first visible) abdominal segment with a well marked alutaceous ground sculpture and a few setiferous punctures along the posterior margin, the remaining visible tergites with a broad median longitudinal impunctate median space and, elsewhere, with fine setiferous punctures which are a little less close than those on the elytra, the setae directed backwards, between the punctures with a ground sculpture similar to that on the third segment, but much less marked. Aedeagus as figs. 14 and 15. Sternite of the eighth abdominal segment not modified in the male. Length : 8,5—9 mm. Huon Golf: Sattelberg, 1897, 1901 (Holotype [male], allotype and two paratypes, both immature). This species is unlikely to be confused with any other as yet described from New Guinea because of its size which is intermediate between 0. carinellus Fauvel and 0. striola Fauvel. In sculpture, it is very similar to the latter but, apart from the somewhat smaller size, differs in the pronotum being less narrowed behind and in the form of the aedeagus .
