impunctate, elsewhere with moderately close, rather fine, punctures, on each side with a sulcus, bounded externally by a ridge, which commences at the inner margin of the eye and extends backwards about two thirds of the way to the posterior head suture. Mandibles normal in size, maxillary palpi as in obliquestriatus (fig. 7). Antennae moderately long, reaching (if extended backwards) a little beyond the posterior margin of the pronotum, rather strongly widened apically, the first segment long, moderately widened apically, the second narrower and much shorter than the first, the third narrower and slightly shorter than the second, the fourth about as broad as and shorter than the third, a little broader than long, the fifth broader and a little longer than the fourth, broader than long, the sixth to tenth scarcely longer than the fifth but increasing gradually in breadth, the sixth about one and one half times, the tenth about twice, as broad as long, the eleventh about two and one half times as long as the tenth, bluntly pointed apically. Neck impunctate, with traces of an alutaceous ground sculpture. Pronotum transverse, rather less than one and one half times as broad as long, narrowed towards base, anterior angles rather sharply rounded, sides rounded in anterior half, more or less straight posteriorly, posterior angles rather sharply rounded, base rounded ; rather broadly impressed at sides, disc with a well impressed longitudinal median furrow and, on each side of this, a superficial elongate impression, close to each side margin with a fine, distinct, longitudinal ridge. Surface with scattered punctures similar to those on head, without visible ground sculpture. Elytra a little more than one and one half times as broad as the suturai length which is slightly longer than the pronotum, distinctly broader than the head, widened apically, the sides more or less straight. Surface with moderately close punctures somewhat coarser than those on the pronotum, which appear, in places, to be arranged in irregular longitudinal rows and tend to become longitudinally confluent towards the sides, between the punctures without visible ground sculpture. Tergites of abdomen rather sparsely, very finely punctured. Length : 1,4 mm. Astrolabe Bay: Friedrich-Wilhelmshafen, 1901 (holotype [female] and one female paratype). In the structure of the antennae, this species would appear to be close to 0. davicornis Fauvel, described from north west New Guinea. According to the description, however, davicornis differs in its larger size (2 mm), darker colour and different sculpture, particularly of the elytra. Oxytelus (Anotylus) birói n. sp. (figs. 8—12) Head dark brown, lighter towards the front, pronotum brownish yellow, elytra dark brown, abdomen lighter than elytra and darker than pronotum. Antennae brown with the first four segments yellowish, mandibles and palpi brownish yellow, legs yellow. Male — Head dull, except for clypeus and central portion of disc, pronotum and elytra dull, abdomen moderately shining. Head large, about one and one quarter times as broad as long, as broad as the pronotum ; post ocular region rather more than twice as long as the
