4> Turdus torquaíus alpestris Brehm. Ring-ouzel. —• I have not found it myself. Agárdi testifies about its occurence, saying that a specimen was shot in Óbánya, 9. April, 1931 which came into his collection. 5. Coracias g. garrulus L. Roller. — There was one pair on a clearing called Pusztabánya ifi the Eastern Mecsek, 4. May, 1947, The birds were later nesting in an old and dry beech tree standing on the edge of the clearing. 6. Dryocopus m. martius L. Black Woodpecker. — I have not seen the bird itself, but heard its very characteristic song more than once ; so in the winter of 1949 and 1950, and then in 1951, at the end of December and the beginning of January. It occurred most frequently around the Harács meadow and the Nagyhegy in the Eastern Mecsek. I have seen its beak-work in the old beech forests behind the Nagyhegy and around the Zengővár. Cseresnyés found it also nesting in 1950 and 1951. 7. Otus scops L. Scops Owl. — I have heard together with friend Cseresnyés its very characteristical screech for half an hour from the direction of the Zengővárkony chestnut woods, southeast of the Büdöskút in the Eastern Mecsek, 22. March, 1951. 8. Styx a, aluco L. Tawny Owl. — Nesting data : I found its clutch of two eggs on the Nagy-. hegy, Eastern Mecsek, 24. March, 1946 ; and its exceedingly rare clutch of seven eggs near Kanta­vár, 28. March, 1947. I found further a clutch of seven at the Anna rest near the Vöröspart, 30. March ; and a clutch of three on the side of the Zengővár, 1. April, 1947. — Data of observations : I met with one specimen on the southern side of the Misina, 19. October, 1943 ; and found one egg near Abaliget, in a niche of the iron bridge of the railway, 10. March. 9. Falco s. subbuetco L. Hobby. — I found it nesting in the nest of a Common Buzzard on a big beech tree on the forest's edge, in the eastern side of the Zengővár, 7. July, 1950. Its clutch was only one egg, to which no more were laid. Lhave never again met with it in the whole Mecsek complex. 10. Aquila h. heliaca Sav. Imperial Eagle. — I saw a specimen flying over the western side of the Szuadó valley in the Eastern Mecsek, 25. March, 1951. Cseresnyés found it later nesting in this place. Its clutch contained two eggs. 11. Haliaaetus albicilla L. Sea-eagle. — I found its nest in the old and rare beech wood at the northern foot of the Jakabhegy, Western Mecsek, 6. January, 1950. It was a huge nest made of corn stalks. Two birds were soaring above the nest on the day of observation. The nest was under observation for my behalf. The female laid her eggs, but the nest was plundered before hatching. The tree also was felled in March, 1951. 12. Hieraaetus p. pennatus Gm. Booted Eagle. -^-Agárdi found it nesting on the Zengő­vár, 9. May, 1948. 13. Columba oe. oenas L. Stock-dove. —• I found its clutch of two eggs in the Jánosi woods (northern side of the Middle Mecsek), 22. April, 1944 ; and found another on the southern side of the Zengővár, 20. August, 1948. Data of observation : I saw a pair near the quarry beside the Kozári hunting lodge, Pécsi Mecsek, 23. March, 1946 ; and another pair on the Nagyhegy, Eastern Mecsek, 24. March ; I have observed eight specimens in the old woods of the Mátépart, southeast of Zobák, Eastern Mecsek, 25. March; I saw one specimen also here, 7. April, 1948. 1. Corvus c. comix L. Hooded Crow. — I saw five specimens in the old wood between Zobák and Püspökszentlászló, 23. March, 1946. 2. Pica p. pica L. Magpie. — I have observed two specimens on the edge of the wood near Orfű, 2. February, 1946 ; and eleven specimens in smaller woods which were tilled around, near Abaliget, 10. March. 3. Alauda a. arvensis L. Skylark. — I found it nesting on the fallow near the Zobák farm, 13. April, 1947. Its clutch was four fresh eggs. I have observed about ten or twelve pairs near Abaliget, 10. March, 1946 Five specimens were singing on the wing on a large clearing near the Árpádtető, 23. March. 1. Oriolus o. oriolus L. Golden Oriole. — Data of incubation : It was nesting in a dense oak forest at the foot of the Jakabhegy, 8. June, 1944 ; it is a frequent nester in the orchards bordering on the woods : it likes especially the walnut tree. It can be found everywhere in the orchards and wineyards on the slopes of the Mecsek. \ 2. Carduelis "c. cannabina L. linnet. — I found it nesting in a vineyard bordering on the woods of the Jakabhegy, 15. July, r945. The nest was on a vine, containing five eggs. I have Habitat VI.
