55 Daudebardia (Szuchumiella) Simrothi n. sp. 1910. Daudebardia sp. — S i mro th, H.: Kaukasische und asiatische Limaciden und Raublungonschneckcn. — Ann. Mus. Zoolog-. L'Acad. Imp. Sei. St. Petersbourg. XV, p. 551—552, Taf. VIII, Fig. 51—54. 1912. Daudebardia jetschini — Simroth, H.: Neue Beiträge zur Kenntnis der Kaukais. Nacktschneckenf. Mittedl. Kaukas. Mus. 6. p. 87, Taf. X, Fig. 46, C (pars). The large specimens are blackish or dark gray on their backs, the colour gradually fades further down. The sole is also grayish. The young animals are black. The length of a fully developed animal which has been preserved in a stretched state was 2.6 mm according to Simroth. The shell is different from that of the Daudebardia Jetschini as it is not oval, but is angular elliptic in form and its growth lines are strong, definite and regular right along the spire. Its colour is light yellowish. As regards its anatomy its most striking difference from the Daudebardia Jetschini is that the retractor muscle of the penis sticks to the end of the penis, close to the opening of the vas deferens. The middle part of the penis is long, muscular and cylinder shaped, the lower part is definitely shorter. The stem of the spermatheca is longer, and sometimes twice as long as the spermatheca itself. The lower part of the stem is swollen, the upper is much slenderer. The spermatheca is not pointed but bluntly circular or spherical in shape. The last part of the short oviduct is strongly and glandularly swollen and it has its opening in the stem of the spermatheca at about the middle. The above given anatomic differences have already been stated by Simroth, who has also given a precise drawing of the reproductive organs of the animal (3, p. 87—88, Taf. X, Fig. 46, C, and 2, Pl. VIII, Fig. 54). As, however, he has not given the animal a name, I have named it Daudebardia Simrothi in his honour. Distribution: the province of Szuchum in the Caucasus. Up till now it has only been found in two places: at one of the bridges of the river Besla, at a distance of 5.3 km. from Szuchum and in Gudaut. Of the three species of the subgenus Szuchumiella the following determining table can be given: 1 (2) The back of the animal is dark, its sole and its inner organs are orange-coloured. The lower section of the penis which is divided in three parts is longer than the middle one. Kalischewskii Simr.
