So tbis date is to be eliminated from fitterature as wrong, although published with good intention by Mr, FEJERVARY. I have to remark furthermore in connection with the said Ireatise of Mr. FEJERVARY 0 ), that I cannot understand the widespread, not typical mountainous appearanee of the Vipera berus in Hungary, only in connection with te special zoogeographic conditions ©f Hungary in the Pleistocene. Hemark. After having finished tbe above description, the last Vol. oi the Proc. Zool. Soe. Lond. (1923. part IV.) eame into my hand in which Mr. J.G. S. MONTAGIT writes an artiele under the title ,,0n Some Manunals from jugoslavia", containing tlie des(-ription of a new subspecies of vole Microtus agrestis punetus from P>led, Slovenia. The new subspeeies is said to resemble Microtus agrestis Levernedii in all characters exeept that of the almormal masseteric plate. Aecordingly, in those respects in which M. a. pannonieus differs from M. a. Levernedii it differs also from tlie Bled specimen. And moreover the masseteric plate is quite normat.
