102 Dr. L. SOOSAXi) HAXS SCHLESCH Succinea </roenlandie« is recorded only froni the western coasts of Greenland, from Igalikofjord (60° 45') until Itivnek (66° 58' N. lat.); it seems to be circumpolar since Suec. chrysis WESTERLUND 3 ") from the Chukchees peninsula and Alaska is eertainly identical with it. The Iceland specimens are somewhat diJfering in form. but anatomically agree with those of Greenland. Succinea groenlandica has been recorded also from northern Scandinavia and Finland. 5. Limnaea (Limnophysa) Vahlii MOLLEE. Tliis species was named by BBCK 9T ), J>ut without any description. li was lirst deseribed by MOLLEB 88 ) as follows : „Testa ovato-oblonga; spira convexo-eonica. obtusiuscula, anfr. subsenis; sutura parum profunda; apertura dimidio testae Jongitudinis longior." Reproductive organs (fig. 4 A): The hermaphrodite gland is made up of globular or rounded poJygonal follicles, imbedded in tlie liver and attached so intimately to ihe acini of this organ — as generally in Limnaea •— that it is impossible to separate it in its wliole extent, The axis of the hermaphrodite duct is formed hx a long, cylindric tube whieh is visible. however. only from the ventral side otherwise beingobteeted Jjy follicular outgrowths (vesiculae seminales?) sitting on its wall, except the most anterior third part of the duet. The ontgrowths of the tirst tliird parl are small and vej-y elosely set, larger and Iess in number on the middle third. The most anterior tliird part is a very thin Jiliform tube becoming gradually slenderer towards its proximal end where it enters, on the ventral side, the mass of the strong Jlattened, semicircular albumen gland so tliat its bifurcation iu a inale and a female part on the one hand, aud the iiioscutation ot ttie ciuct of the albumen gland into the female duct on the other, aro not visible. The mutual eonnexion of Ihese ducts may be perfectly eleared up perhaps only witli the aid of microscopic cuts. s ') Vega-expedit. Vetensk. Arbet., Stockholm 1887, Bd. 4, p. 198, l.
