11-2 ROWLAND E. TURNER This is very distinct from .4. rotundiceps SM. the only other Agriomyia as yet recorded from Cooktown, and is nearer to A. luctuosa SM. though quite distinct. Thynnus (Zëleboria) compar sp. nov. Ç . Head half as broad again anteriorly as long, strongly rounded posteriorly ; punctured, finely and closely on the front, very sparsely on the vertex, a short longitudinal sulcus on the front. Pronotum shining and almost smooth, much narrower than the head, a little broader than long, with a deep longitudinal sulcus from the anterior margin to the middle, the anterior angles prominent and subtuberculate, a shallow depression on each side near the posterior angles. Scutellum sparsely punctured, about half as long as the pronotum, rounded posteriorly ; median segment closely punctured, about the same length as the scutellum, broadened and steeply sloped posteriorly. Abdomen much broader than the thorax, half as long again as the head and thorax combined ; the first segment punctured rugulose, the apical margin slightly raised, with a transverse groove before it ; the second segment with four transverse carinae including the raised apical margin which is lower than Ihe other carinae ; the remaining segments punctured, finely aciculate at the base. Pygidium deflexed, the posterior surface oval, small, with a short longitudinal carina from the base and the lateral margins slightly raised. Fifth ventral segment punctured. Tarsal ungues bifid. Black ; the anterior margin of the head luteous, mandibles, antennae, front between the antennae, legs, two basal abdominal segments and the pygidium fusco-ferruginous ; the apical margins of the third and fourth segments narrowly testaceous. Length 6—7 mm. d" . Clj'peus advanced and truncate rather broadly at the apex, moderately convex and without a carina, finely and closely punctured and clothed with grey pubescence. Head finely and closely punctured, wilhout a frontal sulcus, the interantennal prominence bilobed. Antennae slightly longer than the thorax and median segment combined, slender, the apical joints moderately arcuate. Thorax finely and closely punctured; the pronotum shining and sparsely punctured, narrowed anteriorly, the anterior margin slightly raised; a transverse depressed row of deep punctures at the base of the scutellum.
