Rhagigaster depraedator sp. nov. J . Head rectangular, distinctly longer than broad, shining and very sparsely punctured, a small space above the base of the antennae coarsely punctured with the punctures confluent longitudinally ; a short, longitudinal, frontal sulcus and a sulcus on each side reaching from the inner margin of the eye to the posterior margin of the head, these lateral sulci are very slightly convergent posteriorly. Mandibles very feebly notched on the inner margin before the apex, forming a very short and blunt tooth. Thorax shining and very sparsely punctured; the pronotum longer than broad, strongly narrowed anteriorly and much narrower than the head; scutellum rectangular, nearly three times as broad as long, the mesopleurse closely punctured and showing a distinct dorsal surface. Median segment rather shorter than the prono­tum, oblique and slightly concave posteriorly, shining and sparsely punctured at the base, the oblique area closely punctured. Abdomen subcylindrical, only a little broader than the thorax, shining and sparsely punctured, most sparsely on the two basal segments, the first ventral segment with a minute tubercle at the base, the pygidium deflexed, triangular, pointed at the apex, with a tuft of coarse fulvous hairs on each side. The first ventral segment is triangular and finely rugulose, the remaining ventral segments sparsely punctured, the head coarsely punctured beneath. Black ; the mandibles, except at the extreme apex, the scape, the basal joints of the flagellum the apex of the pygidium and the legs ferruginous. Length 11 mm. Hub. Cooktown, Queensland. Type in Hungaiian National Museum. This is nearly allied to R. approximates TURN, from Cairns, but differs markedly in the form of the pygidium and pronotum. From
