JÚLIA TÁTRAI AND LÁSZLO LENGYEL: Archduke Albert († 1621) on the Catafalque: A Picture of Old-New Acquisition
but is in fact a depiction of Archduke Albert's catafalque 31 (fig. 5). This identification is confirmed by comparing the picture with the one in Budapest. The same stepped baldachin catafalque can be seen in this painting, with Albert's barefooted, dead body lying on top of it dressed in the attire of the Franciscans; the curtains wound around the baldachin pillars also tally, as does the depiction of groups of monks standing in the first line of mourners. The figure wearing clothes adorned with coat-of-arms in the Budapest picture also appears in the painting in Brussels, and the silver candlesticks with long burning candles can also be seen in 6 UNKNOWN (FLEMISH?) PAINTER. CATAFALQUE OF ARCHDUKE ALBERT. MADRID. MONASTERIO DE LAS DESCALZAS REALES
