ANNUAL REPORT • A 2008. ÉV - VILMOS TÁTRAI: Plunge into the World. The Art of Mannerism in Europe

l-t INTERIOR VIEW OF THE EXHIBITION and the coming into being of genre paintings, "Up Close and Personal" on one of the key features of Mannerist compositions, "New Colours and Flashes of Light" on the abstracting and theatrical effects of colours and light, "Swirling Image" on the radical change in Renaissance spatial composition, "The Landscape as a Stage" on the literary style of the first great period of landscape painting and the development of its vehicles of expression, and "Yearning Glances" on the mannerist approach to eroticism. The catalogue begins with four studies —a study each by Michael Philipp, Michael Thimann, Miklós Gálos, and Axel Vecsey —exploring the theory and practise of Mannerist art and the formation of the Mannerist collection of the Museum of Fine Arts. Sixteen members of the museum's three departments wrote the commentaries to the reproductions of excellent quality found in the catalogue, thus leaving an authentic document to posterity about this short-lived exhibition.
