Czére Andrea szerk.: A Szépművészeti Múzeum közleményei (Budapest, 2007)

ANNUAL REPORT - A 2007. ÉV - ANDREA CZÉRE: A Celebration and Volume of Studies in Honour of Teréz Gerszi

in Germany: Dresden, Berlin, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Braunschweig and Munich; in Holland: Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague; in England: London, Cambridge and Windsor; in the US: New York, Chicago and Philadelphia; in Italy: in Florence, Genoa, Turin; and in France: Paris and Dijon. Naturally, many drawings in the book are from the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts. It is noteworthy that the authors selected works for their articles not only from the world's large public but also private collections. Almost one third of the published works are preserved by private individuals and as such they are closed to the public and only a few people knew about them prior to this volume. All of this in itself testifies to Teréz Gerszi's extensive knowledge and network of connections without which an oeuvre like hers could never have been built. Personal references are frequently made in the articles to Teréz Gerszi, calling attention to her attributions of many masters that can be found in European collections, quoting her works and writing about drawings that she attributed. Teréz's main themes of research shine forth from these articles: Rudolphine art in Prague, the problems of landscape depiction around 1600 following on from the Bruegel tradition, and the art of Italianising masters. The chief participants in creating this beautiful book are the authors from both Hungary and abroad, who in response to our circular letter enthusiastically wrote essays in Teréz Gerszi's honour —we thank them for their efforts. The lion's share of organisation and correspondence was carried out by Zsuzsanna Gila, who provided her indispensable assistance at every stage of the work. Anikó Ilarmath contributed to the editing of the book. Publication of the book would never have been realised without the sponsors' support and we are indebted to the Swiss International Music and Art Foundation, Sotheby's of London and the former director of the Dresden Gallery Ms Annaliese Mayer-Meintschl, a dear old colleague of Teréz Gerszi. We would like to express our gratitude for the beautiful execution of the book to the designer, János Lengyel, and the executive staff members of Mester Printing House, László Gyarmathy and Agnes Gyarmathy, who followed our suggestions with great patience and carried out our requests during the printing process.
