AND 27 B&W ILLSISBN 963 7063 40 4 In 1987 the Museum of Fine Arts provided the venue for an exhibition entitled Stamp Images (Bélyegképek) built on the unique collection of several thousand international artiststamps in the Artpool Archive created by György Galántai. Ever since this event has been regarded by critical literature as the first museum exhibition of the artiststamp genre. With the approach of the exhibition's twentieth jubilee it seemed appropriate to again offer a sample of this exciting collection of mainly graphic works. The exhibition displayed approximately five hundred sheets of artistamps by two hundred and fifty artists from twenty-five countries. The material partly came from the Artistamp /Museum's archive operated by the Artpool Art Research Centre since 1994 and comprising some ten thousand stamp sheets by one thousand and two hundred artists, making it probably the most complete and representative artistamp collection of recent times. Artistamps were also contributed by the most important representatives of the genre upon György Galántai's personal invitation. Some of the works were especially made for the exhibition in response to a call for projects by the curator, thus visitors had the opportunity to take a glimpse into a living genre "in the making". A meeting between artists and the audience was organised on the occasion of the exhibition, where artistamp-makers arriving from all around the world shared some of their personal stories with those present.
