ANNUAL REPORT - A 2006. ÉV - ISTVÁN NAGY: Annual Meeting of CIPEG at the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest
Walters Art Museum, Baltimore (scarab corpus), and also in the Royal Ontario Museum (Gebel Adda Collection). Numerous lecturers gave their respective accounts of the various plans for new installations and the remodelling of existing permanent exhibitions, although with a new approach (E. Haslauer — Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna; Mohamed Abdelfattah —SCA, Cairo; Chr. Ziegler —Louvre, Paris; P. Onderka —Naprstek Museum, Prague). According to D. Wildung's lecture, the architectural appearance and organizational principles of the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, Berlin, (due to open again in 2009), will be the perfect rendering of the "visitor-friendly museum". The lectures, which focussed on the various chapters of the history of the Egyptian collections —B. Schlick-Nolte (Landesmuseum Mainz), E. Haslauer (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna), D. Gorzelany (Muzeum Narodowe, Cracow), Nagy I. (Szépművészeti Múzeum, Budapest) —again drew attention to the importance of the monographs that will be made on this subject. The participants of the meeting welcomed the work of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities to establish new museums, as well as to restructure and renovate existing museums, to facilitate protection, promotion and improved accessibility in regard to the natural and cultural heritage of the country. They also expressed the hope that the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the Greco-Roman Museum of Alexandria will continue to be a key player in treasuring and displaying the cultural heritage of the country. The resolutions accepted by the participants stipulate that CIPEG faces the following challenges: » to support the study and presentation of the archaeological relics of Egypt and Sudan within the framework of ICOM and in close co-operation with the International Association of Egyptologists (IAE), with special emphasis on smaller collections; » to support and develop online resources and databases (Annual Egyptological Bibliography, Egyptology Web Archive, Aigyptos database, Informatique et Egyptologie, Global Egyptian Museum); and finally » to support the long-term loan exchanges of artefacts and exhibitions. At the end of the meeting the participants were afforded the Director of the Hungarian Open-Air Aluseum of Szentendre's hospitality, and shown the famous works of the museum. The organization of the CIPEG meeting was sponsored by the invaluable financial backing of the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest and the Hungarian National Committee of ICOM. István Nagy
