ANNUAL REPORT - A 2006. ÉV - ISTVÁN NAGY: Life after Death: Objects írom the Egyptian Cult of the Dead

27 INTERIOR VIEW OE THE EXHIBITION IN PEGS The richly illustrated exhibition guide provided a detailed description of the archaeological and religious context of the objects and their significance from the aspect of cultural history. A booklet for children was also published (written by Zoltán Bartos), which contained introductory texts and quiz questions to facilitate a better understanding of the exhibition pieces. Staff members of the Egyptian Collection and of the Department of Museum Pedagogy went on several touring exhibitions to give lectures and guided tours for the public. The host institutions organized museum pedagogy workshops, during which children could creatively make copies (using clay, wood and paper) of the exhibited objects (amulets, jewellery, pots, etc.) and they could also do drawings of them. Thematic competitions were also organized with special prizes for teenagers and adults. The exhibitions attracted about 16,000 visitors and the local media dedicated ample space to them. A significant number of visitors came to see the "mysterious" Egyptian artefacts from outside the towns that hosted the exhibition, thus they became an art event for the smaller towns in the regions too. Several other towns from both Hungary and abroad expressed their wish to host the exhibition in the future, hence in 2007 the "Objects from the Egyptian Cult of the Dead" will be on display at other venues too.
