5 INTERIOR VIEW OF THE EXHIBITION the expertise of the museum-pedagogists as well as a project was launched to start a computer program (left unfinished), which based on the illustrated Sigismund-biography of Windecke. Windecke's colourful biography itself was also prepared for a manuscript edition but remained unpublished. These shortcomings were due to the difficulties that emerged around the organization. The question we should pose is whether the museum could undertake the task of producing innovative scholarly results or it should rather subscribe to entertainment and the business of communication. This tension was formulated also in the exhibition reviews in the press: the Hungarian press could not face the above mentioned difficulties of interpretation and could not find the right tone to introduce the unusual material. The exhibition was displayed in the ground floor halls; as the various objects were put on display following a historical scheme and a stylistic concept, those, which required dim light were next to the ones that did not and the much hated medieval darkness ruled in the show rooms. The spot-light illumination of the pieces of goldsmith work rendered them objects of luxury. The interior designer of the exhibition, Pál Héjjas, created a maze, in which each niche of the labyrinth corresponded to a chapter of the catalogue. The architecture of the display aimed to provide a logical —chronological, introductory —initiatory narrative. The "Prologue" gave the essential historical facts, with modern chronological charts, genealogies and maps —at the same time serving as a model on how to use the basic sources of historiography (a silent tribute to the Hungarian historian Elemér Mályusz, founder of the Sigismund Document Archive).
