ISBN 3 89479 219 1 On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Attila József s birth, UNESCO dedicated particular attention so that the Hungarian poet and his works would receive the recognition they deserve the world over. One of the events organised in connection with the centenary was the exhibition that bore the title Without Knocking, a line taken from a poem of Attila József. The exhibition was shown in Budapest, Berlin and Aachen, as well. Regarding the pictures on display, the visitor could become an eyewitness not only to a retrospective homage to the poet, but also to a vivid artistic dialogue, as the exhibition was structured around Janet Brooks Gerloff's pictures and Attila József's poetry.
