NÉMETH, ISTVÁN: A Generous Gift or a Healthy Compromise? Some Contributions to the Background of the Donation of a Painting by El Greco

A GENEROUS GIFT OR A HEALTHY COMPROMISE? SOME CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BACKGROUND OF THE DONATION OF A PAINTING BY EL GRECO The worthily renowned collection of Spanish paintings in the Old Masters' Gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts holds no less than seven pictures by El Greco. With merely one exception, the Annunciation, which was purchased in 1907 in Paris, all of these are originating from, directly or indirectly, the superb collection that had been amassed by Marcell Nemes of Jánoshalma (Jánoshalma 1866 - 1930 Budapest). 1 A painting 57.
