The Year 2002

The Fleskum painters also gained much from their years abroad, but now during 74. the Fleskum period they began to explore the Norwegian landscape, seeking to express mood in a naturalistic idiom. They incorporated modern French Realism into Norway's Romantic pictorial tradition, and after the Fleskum summer, open-air painting became the predominant trend in Norwegian art. I. J. HEDVIG GYŐRY, IRÉN VOZIL In 2002 the public visiting the Museum was invited by the glass cases representing curiosities to get acquainted with some items of the Egyptian collection related to medicine. This demonstration focused on an important element of the turn-of-year conceptions in Egyptian religion, concentrating on the feasts. The ancient Egyptian year consisted of 365 days: 5 "additional" days completed the twelve months of 30 days each. Tradition maintained that the 5 children of goddess Nut were bom in this phase of the year: Osiris, the "aged" Horus from Letopolis, Isis, Nephthys and Seth. The gods were virtually present at the exhibition through their small statuettes used anciently as amulets. The five days were for the Egyptians also the time of the "plague of the year", which - according to their belief - was hailed down on them by the goddess Sahmet, also presented in the accompaniment of her mythic family
