In his commissione as capitano of Brescia of 1578 (fig. 50), Duodo's substantial role as commander of galleys in the victory at Lepanto is celebrated, rather than any specific reference to Brescia, as he is shown in armor receiving the victory palm, probably from Saint Justina because it was on her feast day that victory was effected. 30 The accumulation of political 'points' in terms of commissions are enumerated now in the fictive frame, with the arms of prized Padua and Brescia added to those of Udine, Bergamo, and Corfu. Here again the composition, now very much in the style of Veronese, seems to predate a painting in the ducal Palace, the Allegory of the Battle of Lepanto by Veronese, of ca. 1581-1582, in which Doge Sebastiano Venier was honored for his leading role at Lepanto. 31 There are numerous other innovative leaves by this miniaturist, and I will further outline his body of work in another article.
