GYŐRY, HEDVIG: To the Interpretation of Pataikos Standing on Crocodiles

Above the back of the lion a winged ureus, 53 an inscription {ntr nfr nb t3wj in complete, incomplete 54 or convulsed form 55 ) or other hieroglyphic text, 56 sometimes cartouche, 57 /zs-vessel, 58 horizontal ( nh sign 59 and dd-pillar, 60 sundisk with diacritic mark, 61 falcon with or without sundisk, 62 sledge alone 63 and with nb-basket 64 can be frequently seen on seals. On the seal discussed the two horizontal lines of the incision above the lion and the vertical lines connecting the horizontal lines can be told clearly, and above the head of the lion not only a small line going downwards can be distinguished but a small line going upwards, too. It makes likely reading of „sledge" hieroglyph. In this case the possibility of a scene or an ordinary inscription can be precluded, the elements of the incision can only be explained as a trigram. Normally the reading of sledge is tm, in acrophony it can be so the group of the signs can be read as a cryptographic name of Atum. Theoretically, in another possibility as the reading of the sledge can be „ím" and the reading of the lion can be „w", the complete ,,'Itmw" - form of the name Atum might appear. 65 It is very interesting that c nh + sledge + lion trigram belongs to the usual sign group used on scarabs and other type seal amulets, but it does not occur on another kind of 53 Jaeger, op. cit.
