VADÁSZ, LINDA: Friends of the Museum Celebrate Fifth Anniversary

75. Children activity al the Museum brary and restoration studio to get a better appreciation of behind-the-scenes activities. They then learned about how a painting comes to hang on the wall of the museum. More recently the Friends, together with Museum staff, have begun to develop interactive educational programs for children (fig. 75). We sponsored a booth at the Open Museum Days held annually at the National Museum. There children of all ages had a chance to make hieroglyphic stamps and look closer at works from the Old Masters Gallery by drawing in the missing part of a reproduction. At another time more than 20 children, 8-12 years old, participated in a week-long all day summer camp, learning and exploring the Egyptian Department and specific works from the Old Masters Gallery. Not only did they paint, sculpt, draw and build, but dramatically reenacted Peasants at the Table by Velázquez and exhibited their work for their parents. The Friends have supported the publication of a number of projects, including the Hungarian version of the Treasures of Venice catalogue with a contribution from Mercedes-Benz, as well as the catalogue of the millecentennial Albert Schickedanz exhibition. We raised funds from the German Business Club for the English translation of the catalogue of the permanent Egyptian galleries. In addition, we paid for the translation of a guide to the Northern Gothic Sculpture exhibition, as well as for The Children of Eve and Venus. We also published the guide to the Rembrandt cabinet, which is sponsored by Mécs & Partners Kft. andLendvai, Csáky & Partners Law Office. This is the first in a series of gallery guides, initiated by Board member István Barkóczi, which we expect to publish for the permanent collection.
