1 3/a Amphora by Exekias, reverse. Budapest, Museum of Fine Arts ers of or near Group E, Dionysos almost always holds a drinking horn in his left hand. Only once, on an amphora in Naples 26 does he have a kantharos, as on the amphora by Exekias in Budapest. The rhyton was clearly Dionysos's favorite drinking vessel with the earlier vase-painters, even though the kantharos occurs as early as neck-amphorae of the «Tyrrhenian» Group. 27 Nor are maenads common in Group E: the single woman facing 28 ABV p. 133, no. 6. 27 ABV p. 96, no. 14; p. 97, no. 25; p. 103, no. 111.
