Neichl Noémi: A tipikustól az egyediig – FAGI-házak Ebesen

Noémi Neichl From the typical to the individual FAGI-houses in Ebes My study's aim is to compare my knowledge acquired during my fieldwork with the special literature available about the subject. By using the functionalistic way of approach, I want to describe the characteristics of the FAGI-houses. Before the reader gets to know the type of houses, in the introduction I make him familiar with the history of the creation of Ebes. Since the FAGI-house fits into the series of standard houses whose history can be traced back to the beginning of the 20th century, among them with such popular efforts like the FAKSZ or the ONCSA, I will include a few thoughts about them too. Equipped with this knowledge, we go over to the presentation of FAGI (Economic Office for Small House Construction in the Countryside), which was a controlled construction action in the village architecture of the socialist Hungary in the fifties. We learn about the role of the cooperatives and of the social policy of that time in the founding of FAGI. I selected four concrete houses from my collection for the purpose of presenting the FAGI-house. Based on them, we get to know the house's material, its structure from the ground up to the roof, its inner partition and the development of these elements during the years. I give a summary of the change of the heating systems, of the functions of the rooms and of the characteristics of the outbuildings. I highlight in the conclusion the way how everybody tried to shape the house having its characteristics and measures fixed in advance according to his own needs in order to reach better and more liveable circumstances for himself and his familv. 145
