The Living Museum

The Living Museum Preserving the treasures of ver­nacular culture "in mothballs" for the future generations is not the sole aim of the Skanzen. It also aims to show the people of today the practical elements of traditional knowledge, the cus­toms, crafts, and values of past communities. The open-air displays enable vis­itors to experience the authentic atmosphere and scale of village life. Such authenticity is achieved by placing the furnished buildings in appropriate settlement pat­terns and recreating the whole environment which would have surrounded them at their original locations.
