Independent edifices: - Collections, research

Collections, research The Hungarian Open Air Museum has been a centre of scientific research since 1981. Its main task is to undertake research into the architecture, interior furnishings, way of life, community and religious life of the Hungarian speaking areas and to publish the results in academic essays. Our research topics underpin every existing building complex, being part of the scientific museum concept and future displays at the museum. Our aim is to understand and interpret everyday life as well as the settlement history and architecture of the countryside and market towns. We are constantly expanding our research both in space and time. This will enable us to establish a regional unit representing territories beyond the borders of Hungary exploring the ethnography of Transylvania and Partium. We also intend to establish a medieval regional unit and a 20th century village. The main museum building houses the central archives preserving historical documents. It is open to the public, operated in digitised and traditional format.
